Vocals, Bass Guitar, Occasional Guitar and Mandolin
Chris is originally from Southern California, where he learned to play the bass in the prolific L.A. music scene in the late 60’s and early 70’s with among others, alumni of The Strawberry Alarm Clock and other gifted musicians. Chris relocated to Lake Tahoe in the late 70’s where he continued to play, tour and record most notably with Spellbound, The Kind and The Kitchen Syncopators. His approach to bass is to keep it simple and serve the song, while adding a timely punch and drive when required. He still plays his ‘83 Alembic Spoiler to help lock the bottom end down. Upon his recent move from Tahoe to Southern Utah, he connected with Garth and Mike and New-Fifty was born.
Lead Vocals, Drums, Percussion
Mike is a decades long veteran of the thriving Alaskan music industry. Primarily based in Palmer Alaska, Mike is an in-demand singer-songwriter and musician both in the live scene and in the recording industry. In various capacities he has performed at The Alaska State Fair, The World Famous Chilkoot Charlie’s Bar, Mug Shot Saloon and The Miners and Trappers Ball. He has played with Diamondust, Forrest, Frank Iarrosi Band, Josh Fryfogle Band, The Connection and Muriel Kidd. All of his experience playing, singing and writing brings an integral component to the structure and sound of New-Fifty.
Lead Vocals, Lead and Rhythm Electric and Acoustic Guitars
Hailing from St Albert, Alberta, Canada, Garth brings his talents to the forefront of New-Fifty, handling rhythm and lead guitar parts, as well as songwriting, arranging and vocals. Garth loves the sound and vibe of old guitars and amps and drew upon his collection of vintage Strats, Telecasters and Fender tweed amps from the 50’s and 60’s for the various guitar sounds on the album. Garth previously played with the Canadian bands The Awesome Possum Blues & Rock Band, and The Shop Band. His unique guitar style, as well as top-notch writing and arranging skills are perfectly suited and essential to New-Fifty.
Our band New-Fifty, like many things in life, was a happy accident; a product of three neighbors casually discovering each other's love of playing music. An off-hand suggestion of “let’s jam sometime” was all it took to get together and realize there was a strong musical connection.
In 2021 we wrote and "virtually" performed and recorded our first album Going Nowhere, an eleven song work of original music and re-imagined covers. Along the way, we also enlisted the talents of Naima, a young Swedish videographer, to create a video for our song Thinking of You.
Since then with all that's been going on in our lives, it's been hard for the band to get together, but we've managed to write a few new songs which we decided to release as the EP You Dream.
We appreciate all of you who listen to our music and support us. Thanks and stay tuned!
